Factmata Trusted News Chrome Add-On Has Been Turned Off Until Further Notice

A number of people reached out to me today, to ask why Trusted News no longer worked for them. I decided to write this post to address that question as I’m sure there are others wondering the same thing — many Trusted News users came from MetaCert’s promotional efforts. I can’t say more than what I’m about to say for legal reasons, as I recently decided to protect MetaCert’s IP and copyright.

In summary, the Trusted News browser add-on developed by Eyeo in partnership with MetaCert, no longer works. It’s completely dead. A new release went live on the Chrome store today, so everyone will see the service being turned off today or tomorrow.

I apologize for the lack of advance warning. If it was up to me I would have informed everyone through a browser update and redirected you to a post explaining what was happening.

The browser software is now owned by a company called Factmata. Eyeo invested in Factmata by way of giving them the browser add-on + cash.

No arrangement was made with MetaCert, so we asked for our data to be removed. The product was 100% powered by MetaCert — so without our data, it doesn’t work, at all.
